THE PROBLEM WE WERE SOLVING

While the data analytics capabilities of SAC were state-of-the-art, its users were struggling to exchange files containing the said data analysis amongst themselves.

Resorting to the use of zip files, email chains, physical storage devices & other myriad of workarounds. The outcome was frustration, wasted time and dissatisfied users.

Introducing Content Network

To help users differentiate between content in their local system vs what's out there that can be downloaded or they previously uploaded - we created a new space called Content Network. For easier discoverability we placed it next to the existing File Browser.

Sending Content aka exporting

HOW MIGHT WE MAKE EXPORTING FILE-PACKAGES SIMPLE YET POWERFUL AND ALWAYS SECURE ?

We designed a simple 3-step wizard to make exporting a simple task. 1. choose content -> 2. set location & recipients -> 3. review & export

At several moments we use progressive disclosure to conceal complex tasks frequented only by power users, eg: rights allocation per recipient, cherry-picking content with its dependencies etc.

Downloading Content
aka importing

HOW MIGHT WE MAKE DOWNLOADING SIMPLE AND RELIABLE ?

We introduced advanced filters eg: by industry, line of business, and file type to streamline the search process for a user. Additionally we laid out a suggestion guide for content teams to organise downloadable content into intuitive folder structures to further help users locate desired packages quickly.

To enhance user trust and task accuracy, we identified key moments in an importer's journey where proactive feedback would add value. For instance, clear warnings about data overrides with recurring scheduled imports, new available versions of a previously imported package etc

We made sure that all the downloadable content is presented in meaningful folder structures so that user finds a desired package quickly. And introduced new filter options (by industry, line of business, file type etc) to further expedite the finding process.

To inspire confidence in our system as well as prevent user from making unwanted mistakes, we proactively provided feedback, for eg: highlighting possible overrides of data on import triggers, download's progress, history etc
